Really very early chocolate or syrup pitcher. I have actually owned this product for practically 40 years and I'm finally going to let it go into a brand-new collection. As seen in the photos, this is an extremely early built piece and it appears to be a tankard design other than it has a spout and lid. I'm not an expert on early metalware but it could be from ca. 1600's -1700's. The side of the pitcher is etched with (5) Roosters, two on each side and one in the front bottom below the spout. The 2 Roosters on each side of the pitcher face each other. The bottom is signed up with to the pitcher side with dovetail jointing and afterwards hammered to seal the jointing tight to prevent leakage. This can be seen in the image of all-time low. It is hard to make out the dovetail joining however personally it is easily seen. The heavy tankard style handle is joined to the pitcher at the top rim with two hand hammered stud pins, all-time low of the manage is unattached to the pitcher. The cover likewise has hand hammered stud pins to secure it to the deal with as seen. I'm uncertain what sort of metal this is made from. Magnets won't stay with it and while the surface appears as an old copper color, where the pitcher has been scuffed or scraped, the metal below appears as a much lighter colored metal, pewter?. That there are (5) etched Roosters etched into the metal might imply this is a softer metal matched for metalsmithing into a useable pitcher. The height is 5-1/2" and all-time low is 3-3/8" diameter and the top is 2-1/2" throughout. Weight of the pitcher is 13.1 oz. I have actually included (2) videos below for additional details.
