This MONARCH APPLE BUTTER crockery is from Reid, Murdoch & Co., of Chicago, who packed their Monarch Brand items with the lion's head trademark. One Monarch (lion) trademark was signed up by Reid, Murdoch as hallmark # 302,652 on April 25, 1933, but their application showed that they had actually been utilizing it since 1902. I understand that they were utilizing it as early as 1917. In 1945, Reid, Murdoch & Co. combined with others to end up being part of the Consolidated Grocers Corporation; in 1978, Monarch Foods part of PYA/Monarch. Part of Sara Lee Corp., PYA/Monarch may still be wholesaling today. This Weir crockery took a stoneware lid embossed NO. 2 THE WEIR PAT MAR 1ST 92, APRIL 16TH 1901. This is a nice find to come throughout a vintage stoneware container with a considerable part of a paper label still undamaged and better yet, to have the Trademark Lion of the company intact. The Jar is 6" high and 4-1/2" in diameter. The lid is missing ... which on on older containers like this, broke quickly and were tossed. The manage still has the original lever to hold the cover in place. There is no stoneware maker mark on the jug. The glaring white areas on the images are from "daylight bulbs" I utilized when I was photographing and videoing the Jar ... they're not white blemishes. There are a few nicks on the jug which I have actually revealed on the photographs in addition to on the video. There is likewise exactly what seems a fracture which to me appears to be from during the stoneware manufacturing procedure.
